Crime

imagesOn Monday January 30th thirty nine year old James Jackson who was on trail for the murder of his common-law-wife Estela Amador was found not guilty of murder after Judge Dennis Hanomansingh instructed a jury of 12 to find Jackson not guilty due to insufficient evidence.

With that Jackson became a free man. But in a surprising turn of events CTV3 News understands that on the same day the trail ended Jacksons sister, Guilda Gutierrez was detained by Corozal Police and charged for perjury after the Crown Council, represented by Sherniza Smith, made a report against her.

Smith reported to police that on January 30th Gutierrez was subpoenaed and sworn in to give a statement in the matter of the Queen versus James Jackson. Reports are that during the murder investigation Gutierrez gave a statement to the authorities as it pertains to the case. That statement was submitted into evidence but when it was time for Gutierrez to testify, the Crown Council says, she gave contradicting statements to the Supreme Court while under oath. As a result Gutierrez was charged for perjury. Judge Dennis Hannomnasing offered Gutierrez bail to the sum of $7,000 plus one surety of the same amount which she met. Gutierrez is scheduled to reappear before the Corozal Magistrates Court on April 2nd.
