On the 29th of August, 2010, Galen University launched a degree program in the Corozal District for persons who were willing to pursue further studies but did not have the resources to travel to Cayo. The University’s main facility is situated at Central Farm in the Cayo District and offers a number of Undergraduate and Graduate programs. Several of the degrees are focused in Accounting, Anthropology, Archaeology, Management and Administration, Economics, Marketing, Environmental Science and International Business with newly added Computer Science and, Banking and Finance.
In efforts of allowing easier access to persons not able to make the commute to the Main Facility, Galen University will be launching a Business Administration Program in Orange Walk Town. The Program is set to commence in January 2011 and the degree coordinator for the Northern Region, Joel Cervantes says the quality of education is among the highest in the entire collegiate region.

“Presently we have two cohorts: one in Corozal and one in Orange Walk running, we also presently accepting application for spring 2012, another Bachelors Degree program for the north. We are bringing the education home to the north which we have seen is in dire need, we have noticed that actually Orange Walk people have been very aggressive in pursuing their Bachelors Degree and yesterday we had an information session and it was very successful and I am very pleased about that and it shows that Orange Walk is really, really moving we have people that believe in education and they know what it is and that is what Galen is about, we want not only to give the education but give the highest standards and quality.”
Key courses in the Business Administration Program include Algebra, Statistics, Calculus, Advanced English Composition, Managerial Accounting and Economic Development.

“I believe that eventually it is what will really differentiate us from, not only from other districts but in Belize itself, we will be able to make the right decisions for the future, whether it is a political decision, a business decision, a company decision, it is doing this business administration presently it makes the young people know their entrepreneurships skills, whether it is accounting they wan they make a decision for the future, do they want to do a masters in finance or is it they want to go into the world and make their own business or even if they would work for a company but how will they make that company successful, do they have the marketing skills, this develops it in each and every one so I believe for Orange Walk and Corozal Town this is what you will see in the near future in the other two years the first cohort will graduate from Corozal and in another two years I believe you will see the fruits of the education at a Bachelors level in Orange Walk and Corozl Town. They are all business course, the core course for a Bachelor Degree and this is an opportunity for the north, both for Corozal and Orange Walk and it is here at home, take advantage of it, it you can yes, it is a financial constraint but it is also a financial investment and an investment that only you will have and no one can take away that from any of us until the day we die so it is an investment take advantage of it young people.”
The deadline for applications is on November 30th. For those who are interested in the program and desire to obtain more information, you can contact Joel Cervantes at 672-1104.
