Screen_shot_2012-01-26_at_8.23.21_PMWithout a doubt sports plays a very important role in the life of a child, hence why we always hear about football, basketball and even softball marathons. Apart from keeping children healthy, sports keeps them away from the streets. Today when we visited La Inmaculada School we found standard three students engaged in a football match which promoted healthy competition.

Running up and down a football field or any field for that matter is not an easy task. But for the standard three students of La Inmaculada School, playing football under the scorching sun was like eating cupcakes fun and exciting. As the four teams, two males and two females battled it out on the field today our camera captured their exciting faces.

After a tiring match we spoke to some of the students who told us how they felt about being part of a football team.

“Who are the best the girls of the boys?”

Diana Leiva followed by the other students

“I say the girls”

Amparito Zetina-Reporter

“Why is that so?”

Diana Leiva followed by the other students

“Because they play good”

But today’s football competition was not only organized for the love of sports. According to Principal of La Inmaculada School Manuel Polanco, the competition also plays a very important role when it comes to the children’s education.

Manuel Polanco

“It is a competition for all children from Infant I to Standard VI, it is class playing against class and we have the competition for boys and girls in all levels.”

Amparito Zetina-Reporter

“Today did all the classes participated?”

Manuel Polanco

“No, today was only Standard III, two classes in Standard III there are four classes so two of them competed today boys and girls.”

Amparito Zetina-Reporter

“How do sports assist the students in their early education?”

Manuel Polanco

“Definitely sport is a very important part of the school curriculum we cannot do without it and in fact it is recommended and asked by the ministry of education that we do engage our children in sports because it does help them to develop a physical fitness and mental fitness as well, a sound body and a sound mind so definitely it will help them in their development.”

At the end of the day only one team could take first place. And that was won by no other than the team of Brazil who proudly celebrated their victory.

Todays football competition will not be the last for the school because according to Principal Polanco all classrooms will have an opportunity to compete against each other.
