In the second segment of our newscast we told you about the women of the Praying Pelican Missions Team from Madison Wisconsin who were offering free cosmetic services to women of the Orange Walk Community. But they were not the only ones that were hard at work today because just a few yards away we found another group of missioners from Madison Wisconsin offering free dental care to the students of the Louisiana Government School.

Today we found students of the Louisiana Government School lined up along their parents waiting for their turn to be examined by the dentists. Apart from offering a free dental checkup the Praying Pelican Missions Team was also offering free extractions and fillings to these young minds.

“Are you scared?”
Ramon Alamilla – Student
“No”
According to Doctor David Besley this is the fourth time that the group is visiting the school with the aim of teaching students good dental hygiene.

“Our focus is then on children about 7 years old that’s right after their permanent molar have just come in the back and we are trying to catch those molars before they have cavities that are too big to be saved and so we are trying to do as many fillings in those as we can in cases where there are cavities and were there aren’t cavities we are trying to do sealants back in those molars in order to prevent them from getting cavities in the future and then there are cases where children do come in with pain where baby teeth have become so rotten that there is no longer any good for the child and so it causing them pain and so we have had to do a few extractions to take of those few instances where it is pain.”
And although after the dental cleanup some of the students were unable to smile, we are sure that the next time they do, they will be more than happy that the dentist paid them a visit.
The group is scheduled to leave the country on the 28th of January.
