The two newly constructed class rooms at San Jose Nuevo Palmar R.C School were finally completed yesterday with the installation of ceiling fans. The construction of the new school building was made possible through the kind financial assistance of Bishop Dorick Wright, Father Amelio Chi and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO represented today by Dr. Dan Brown.

According to Principal of Palmar R.C School Deisy Canul, the completion of the two classrooms, which will be used by standard five and standard six students, will also benefit the pre-schoolers.

Deisy Canul, Principal

“It will benefit the students greatly, because first of all as I said the pre-schooler is now with us, we have direct interaction with them, secondly our classroom over there where the building is located, when heavy rains came they got wet now with the build above I am sure that the two classrooms are free of that now, thirdly there is more space and we are creating an enhancing environment for our students because you know when there are in an environment that is conducive to learning better learning can take place.  The project was for two classrooms where we will locate the Standard V and VI students, these classrooms were made in a way that we put the iron shutters that can be moved up so we can have an auditorium up there, so not only we do have two classrooms but we have an auditorium that we could use for our school activities.”

And as the building was inaugurated and blessed, Sponsor Bishop Dorick Wright spoke about the importance of education in young children.

Bishop Dorick Wright

“I noticed that they have put Standard V and VI upstairs and the pre-school must have gone is where these boy and girls were but investing at school is about the best thing we can do at this time our children really need education and they are up and they are very much into learning and so I can see some years from now we will be able to have more children here at Palmar school and will be able to improve the educational standards, get better teachers and also with the parents contributing and supporting this school I think we will be able to improve.”

Without the financial assistance received from UNSECO, Bishop Dorick Wright and Father Amelio Chi the two new classrooms would not have become a reality, says Canul.

Deisy Canul, Principal

“I am very grateful to the people who contributed towards this project in particular Dr. Brown, he was the major source of funding, most Reverend Bishop Dorick Wright, who assisted us when we needed most, Rev. Chi who assisted us and with the sale of materials like I said parents bought it, other people bought it so our parents will definitely be assisting us with the fund raising that we need to do to be able to complete the entire project.”

The new building was constructed at a total cost of $61,000.
