Yesterday morning members of the Carmelita R.C School PTA conducted a cleanup campaign at the school grounds to create a healthier environment for students. The cleanup campaign began at 8:00am as the nine women chopped the over grown grass, cleanup the bathrooms and pruned the trees.
Irma Chias, President of PTA
“We start by cleaning the school because we see that the school is very abandoned so we try to clean it to have a better environment for the students.”
Janine Ayuso-Reporter
“What have you all done already?”
Irma Chias, President of PTA
“We already chopped back there and today we come very early to chop and clean up the bathrooms because they are very abandoned too.”
Today Secretary of the PTA, Nera Roaches also spoke to us about the group’s future plan’s which includes a feeding program to assist the less fortunate children of the school.
Nera Roaches, Secretary of PTA
“We are trying to get a feeding program for kids that are less fortunate and we have some kids that live on the old road and they are a distance away from home and we also have some kids living in Tower Hill and in Carmelita Village we also have some kids living way down in the sand pit road and around the school we have some kids that are less fortunate, maybe their parents can’t afford to give them a meal in the afternoon so me and the PTA that consists on nine of us we are trying to do a little building for them so they can have free food so we are not charging anything, what we are trying to do is to beg to anybody that can assist us with any material, a stove we are trying to get, a refridge, plates, dishes and pots so that our feeding program can go along. The chairs are over this side that you can see we have one of our parents, Mr. Salvador, he told us that he can help us with the chairs that are broken, he is a carpenter and he can fix the chairs over and we will dispose of the chairs that are not good at all, we have a lot of people that are willing to help us but w also in need of materials so that we can go onward with our feeding program.”
The PTA plans to cater for a hundred students. If you would like to assist in any way you can contact the President of the PTA, Mrs. Irma Chias at 634-6057 or you can contact the principal of the school at 302-1438.
