Hundreds of names on Provisional Voters List To Be Objected
Between December 10th and Thursday 19th of January the country of Belize recorded over 5,000 new registered voters. Out of that 5,000, 1000 persons are said to have registered to vote in the Orange Walk District from January 6th to January 19th. As mentioned previously, most of the new applicants who are said to be persons who recently received their Belizean Certificate, registered under fraudulent addresses.
Official reports are that in Orange Walk Central 323 new applicants made it on the provisional list. Out of that amount 151 used nationality documents to register to vote for the upcoming Municipal Elections. From what we understand the P.U.P here in Orange Walk will be challenging hundreds of those applications. According to Orange Walk Central Area Representative Honorable John Briceno, his attorneys have written to the Elections and Boundaries Commission informing them about a number of irregularities as it pertains to the list of voters in Orange Walk Central.

“We have alerted them that there is a serious problem going on and that it is supposedly this pastor along with his UDP henchmen is trying to get these people to be registered voters we need to point out so far that they are not registered voters they are jus member in the provisional list. We have also gotten a number of people in Orange Walk that are going house to house that are checking every single name of these people that are attempting to register in Orange Walk Central to see if they live there, we have gotten a number of house owner, the heads of the household that are already signing declaration saying that these people do not live in the address that they gave and what we have done is that we’ve hired the law firm of Courtney and Coye and Senior council Eamon Courtney is going to be representing us when they have the court hearing to go through the provisional list on February 3rd.”

“We know that members of the Election and Boundaries have been going around identifying if these individuals live on the address that they gave, do you think that there was enough time to do that in seeing that there was one thousand new registered applicants here in Orange walk?”

“I certainly believe that they did not had enough time for them it is just a hand full of people to check on a thousand names across the entire district of Orange Walk so I can understand to a certain extent but if they were doing a thorough check as to where the people were living certainly here in Orange Walk central they have already found out that many of those people do not live in the addresses that they gave and for instance just a matter of a day or two we already have many of them where the owner of the house are telling us that these people are not living in their house, that they do not know who these people are and they certainly object to the idea that these people are illegally attempting to use their homes to become a registered voter in Orange Walk Central, but I certainly would have expected that the officials at the Election and Boundaries at the office to have been more vigilant, they are the first line of defense in protecting the democratic process.”
CTV3 News understands that statements recorded from several persons indicating that their address was fraudulently used will be presented as evidence on Objection Day set for February 3rd. One can recall the case of Evangelina Chan who publicly declared that her address was illegally used by one Freddy Ixchop and Anna Maria Hernandez.
When they visited the Elections and Boundaries Department Maria Isabel Sarceno and Maria Cristina Juan gave an address of Progress Street. But according to one woman who has lived on Progress Street her entire life, Sarceno and Juan do not live in the area. Another case is that of Alba Luz Garcia and Luis Antonio Cesena who registered at number 15 San Lorenzo Housing Site. Those two names will also be objected by the P.U.P because several persons living in the area have come forward stating that Garcia and Cesena do not live on number 15 San Lorenzo Housing Site. In fact, the only two persons that live on that address are Celso Garcia and Amparito Vasquez. And the list of objections goes on, but really it is a long one so, we’ll stop right there.
Reports are that in some cases, even though the applicant gave a false address at the time of registering to vote, their name still appeared on the provisional list. Today Briceno told us what concerns him most about the entire situation.

“What concerns me is that we are going to be objecting over a few hundred names, at least over 200 names and I don’t think we are going to have enough time or enough hours of that day to go through that entire list so I am hoping that the magistrate will act quickly but also to do what is right to scratch out the people that do not live in Orange Walk and to let them go and register in the area where they live, let the people of Orange Walk Central who live in Orange Walk Central decide who they want to be the next area representative, I have every confidence that I continue to maintain this support and confidence of the people of Orange Walk Central.”
But Briceno’s war is not against the New Belizeans, it’s against a man and a party who will do just about anything to steal the elections.

“I want to make something absolutely clear that I am not against the nationality process, the process where these people became naturalized Belizeans, many of them deserve to be Belizeans they have been living in Belize for ten, fifteen, twenty twenty-five years and they deserve to get their nationality, am not against that but what I am against is where this pastor is attempting to try to use these people, many of these people are poor, many of these people do not know better in trying to use them by telling them I will get you your nationality is alleged because that’s what the tape showed or presented when it was on the news, where his people are telling them not to worry the pastor knows about it, we are going to get your papers but in return you are going to get registered in Orange Walk Central and vote for the pastor, that is illegal, it is immoral, it is something that it would have never been expected that somebody that comes across that have been a man of God, he is a pastor and it is something that is totally unacceptable.”
Official reports are that in Orange Walk South 396 new applicants made it on the Provisional List. In Orange Walk East there were 177 and in Orange Walk North there were 219 new applicants who made it on the list. CTV3 News understands that P.U.P Standard Bearers of these areas will also be challenging some of the names on the list. Again Objection Day will be held on 3rd February. It will definitely be an interesting day.
