PUP Holds Rally In Altamira Corozal
The temperature of the election fever has reached a boiling point with rallies and conventions held by both major political parties. And while the U.D.P is trying to win voter support by offering pre-election gifts, the Peoples United Party is hitting the campaign trail meeting with the Belizean People talking about the solutions the party has to the many problems the country is facing. With elections only a few days away, the P.U.P has accelerated their political machinery to ensure that the message of change reaches just about every single Belizean. On Friday residents of Corozal Town had the opportunity of listening to the plans of the party as the four P.U.P Standard Bearers and the Town Council candidates held a rally in Altamira Corozal. Our news team was present for the event and filed the following report.

Corozalenos swarmed to the rally demonstrating their support to the candidates; support for true change, support for solutions instead of promises, support for the People’s United Party.
As each councilor candidate took to the podium, they were received with a thunderous applause and as they unfolded the team’s plans that will bring development to Corozal Town, the wind of change blew in favor of the country’s oldest political party.

My portfolio of choice; one, I will work with my women, will advocate for better conditions for those who need it, will empower them to be independent and be self employed.”
For Mayoral Hopeful Anwar Charaff, the need to revive Corozal is a must.

During the rally, the party’s four Standard Bearers for Corozal also addressed the crowd. Apart from informing Corozalenos about their manifesto plans, Florencio Marin Jr., Gregorio Papas Garcia, Valdemar Castillo and Ramiro Ramirez reminded residents of the north about the U.D.P’s empty promises.

Aquí los cuatro del norte de Corozal estamos juntos siempre y vamos a trabajar duro para traer Victoria para el Partido Unido Del Pueblo y la mejoría para el distrito de Corozal.”

“No hay duda que después de las diez de la noche el siete de Marzo vamos a tener siete candidatos del PUP electos para la municipalidad y por su puesto los cuatro candidatos del distrito y vallamos a ayudar el gobierno de Belice en Belmopán.”

“Estoy campaneando en mi área en Southeast y una cosa se me es difícil hacer es criticar el UDP, la verdad que si esta duro criticarlos porque no hicieron ninguna expansión de luz entonces yo no puedo criticar que dieron a algunos y otros no consiguieron porque no hicieron ninguna expansión, no adquirieron terreno a la gente entonces yo no puedo criticar a ellos que solo los allegados consiguieron, en mi área no hicieron nada entonces eso esta duro criticar.”
And as the former Party Leader Honorable John Briceño addressed the crowd, change resounded in the air.

“Señoras y Señores el UDP siempre dice que quiere hablar del pasado, pues vamos hablar del pasado ya que quieren hablar del pasado pero vamos hablar de los últimos cuatro años porque en el 2008 el pueblo de Belice decidió que querían un cambio, porque les dieron tantas promesas recuérdense, fueron 21 promesa que le dieron al pueblo de Belice y hoy en día debemos de hablar del pasado los últimos cuatro años del UDP, cuando nos prometieron que iban tener una economía que iba a expandir, que la economía iba a crecer pero solo necesitaba en gobierno de Deán Barrow y el UDP, hoy en día a donde vamos y todos nosotros estamos de campaña visitando diferentes áreas en nuestras vecindades y nos estamos dando cuenta que muchos negocios se han cerrado, acá en Corozal me recuerdo como en el 2006 no había gente para trabajar porque teníamos el Corozal Free Zone, teníamos la Papaya que había tanto trabajo que no había suficiente gente para trabajar, cuatro años después, Corozal hay muchos jóvenes que no pueden conseguir un trabajo, cuando salimos de gobierno el desempleo estaba en 8.4%, hoy está en 24% solo en cuatro anos del gobierno de Dean Barrow Y el UDP.”
