The Rotary Club is one of the most prestigious organizations in Belize. It is known for fulfilling its objectives in the most beneficial way possible, whether it is in health, education or manual services. Its international reputation allows it to work along with organizations from all corners of the world.
One of the organizations that works with the Rotary Club is New World Villages and we caught up with the group at St. Peter’s Anglican School to find out more.
Elaine Moran- New World Villages “We’re setting up an internet ready computer lab with twenty computers with printers and cameras and faxes and just about everything you need to have a comprehensive computer program.”
It’s not the first time that the group has worked in Belize. New World Villages has actually been donating to the development of the nation since 2004.
Elaine Moran- New World Villages “We’ve been involved in education here in Belize since about 2004. We’ve sent text book before. We’ve sponsored scholarships and teacher training and so forth but this is the first container that we’ve brought in and the first large shipment of computers.”
The plan is for the project to be carried out in all districts, and $50,000 has been allocated. |

Computers are a basic necessity in today’s technological era, and a school without computers is often considered behind the times. The students of St. Peter’s Anglican will not be behind the times, however, as that school was chosen as part of a computer development programme carried out by New World Villages, working hand in hand with the Rotary Cub. We spoke to one of the representatives of the organization, Elaine Moran.
“This was all arranged through a project with the Belize City Rotary Club, as well as the international Rotary Club and a Seattle Rotary Club.”
This project is expected to help the children develop their computer skills so they will be prepared when they enter high school.
