The 2nd murder for the Corozal District for the year was recorded last night as 41 year old Philip Moses Hall was brutally stabbed to death at a home in Carolina Village.  It is believed that the suspected murderer, a 21 year old horse trainer and jockey from the Orange Walk District, then set his victim’s body on fire and left him there for police to find.  Tonight there are more questions than answers as Police have yet to ascertain the motive for the atrocious killing.  But from what we were able to gather it appears that Hall was infatuated with his murderer and that could have led to his death.  We advise our viewers that the material you are about to view may be very graphic to some, and perhaps children should not be allowed to watch.

Carmelita Perez reporting,

Blood stains on the toilet seat, bathroom floor, and bloody hand prints smeared on the walls are indications that 46 year old Philip Moses Hall met a cruel death last night.
What exactly transpired in this room where Hall’s alleged murderer, 21 year old Rafael Mencias better known as “Bull” lived is not yet known.  But from what is left behind, including burnt blood patches and a partially burnt mattress, police believe Hall was stabbed several times, then covered with clothing and set on fire.
Superintendent Miguel Guzman- Officer In charge Corozal Police Formation
“The fire department responded so they quickly extinguished the fire before it could have gotten out of control.  Upon doing an investigation inside the building they found this motionless body who was identified as Philip Moses Hall who is form the said village. Preliminary investigation into the matter reveals that this fellow Philip was socializing and was having a couple of drinks with a fellow by the name of Bull we know his first name is Rafael.  They ended at Rafael’s home and that is where the incident happened and it may appear that they had a misunderstanding.  The person may have taken out a machete or knife and stabbed him.  He then lit the building on fire and disappeared.  The body was naked but we cannot say for sure that it was like that before the fire.  The fire may have burnt out the clothes.”
Carmelita Perez- CTV-3 News
“I understand that the stab wounds could not even have been counted, there were numerous stab wounds on the body.”
Superintendent Miguel Guzman- Officer In charge Corozal Police Formation
“Yes there were several stab wounds on the chest regions, the neck region and the thorax.”
At the crime scene, the thick stench of blood was still in the air.  Empty Belikin and Guinness bottles proved that the men continued drinking after leaving the bar.  According to one of Hall’s neighbors, who spoke to us off camera, because of the heavy rains that fell last night they didn’t hear any noise coming from the room.  The scent of smoke is what alerted them that something was wrong.  At that time however they had no idea that Hall was inside the room already dead.
For the family the news of their loved one’s death came as a shock.
Hubert Hall Jr.- Brother of deceased
“Eight o’ clock last night. I saw him by the bar and asked him for five dollars and he gave me.  He was drinking the whole day but I don’t think it is a person who you had to kill. Because if you knew the man you never had to take him to your house and stab him. You could have told him I am not on your timing.”
Carmelita Perez
“Your brother and this man here called Bull were they friends or did they have any argument?”
Hubert Hall Jr.- Brother of deceased
“Well up to what I heard the man was going out with the man but I do not know because I don’t try to get into the man business.”
Some of the alleged killer’s friends who saw Mencias during the night, say they heard him confess to committing the crime before he disappeared.  One man told CTV-3 News off-camera that Mencias had visited his home last night with a machete in hand and told him that he needed his help.  He confessed to have killed Hall and asked for garbage bags to dispose the body.  When that help didn’t come, it is suspected that Mencias set the room with the body inside on fire.
The fact that Hall’s killer remains a fugitive tonight has family members screaming for justice.
Hubert Hall Jr. - Brother of deceased
“The policeman no come for this man that means they are encouraging or accepting the criminals.  We are the family and if we meet this man what do you think we will do? We have to do more than kill because we are a straight family.  All of us are neighbors and they kille dhte man at the man’s nephew house. He kill my little brother but I am not going for him.  I want the police to go and look for him.”
Friends of the victim believe that his bizarre obsession with Mencias is what led to his death.  Reports are that on several occasions Hall had indicated to Mencias that he was infatuated with him.  But Mencias paid him no heed.
At the time of the incident, Hall was working in Carolina Village as a horse trainer.  Anyone knowing the whereabouts of 21 year old Rafael Mencias is asked to contact the nearest police station.  Viewers are reminded that harboring a criminal is against the law.
