A man from the Corozal district is homeless tonight after his 28 foot by 36 foot concrete residence was engulfed in flames. On April 23rd, 37 year old Rygel Cob, a fisherman of Joseito Layout in the Corozal District, left home en route to Sarteneja Village to visit some friends.
Around 4.30pm that same day he was informed that his house was on fire. By the time Cob arrived in Corozal the fire had already been extinguished but he had lost almost all items located inside the residence. This included a computer, television set, a closet full of clothing and four mattresses valued at a total of $3,000.
The incident is being investigated by the Orange Walk Fire Department. When we contacted Orange Walk Fire Chief Orin Smith this morning he told us that the matter is still under investigation and that the cause of fire has not been determined. We understand that arson has not been ruled out in this case. We also understand that Corozal Police are awaiting the results of the investigation to determine if anyone will be arrested. Police are allegedly looking for one Idelfonso Gomez for questioning in connection with the fire.
