truckA few days ago a white Mazda pickup truck went missing in Belize City. The vehicle, bearing license plate number C-5720 was reported stolen by a Chinese businessman. This morning, based on information received, Corozal Police visited the Dominguez Layout Area where they found the stolen vehicle already being taken apart. This morning when we spoke to Officer in Charge of the Corozal Police Formation Superintendent Miguel Guzman, he told us that one person has already been arrested for the crime of handling stolen goods.

“We got information on Monday the 25th of April, 2011 that this vehicle was stolen from one Lee Hung Bin Chinese man of number 12 Iguana Street. An immediate inspection of the vehicle we say that the hood was taken away and thrown into the bushes and the license plate had practically been torn off and the person was working into the engine. A quick search of the area led us to find one Shane Anthony Morgan who is of thirty-four years, who claims to be a former mechanic of College Road Corozal Town and he has been arrested and charges are now been levied against him for handling stolen goods. What we believe would happen is that they would have taken all the parts that are salvageable. Well, the vehicle is practically intact but they would have taken anything that would have made use of and then resell it or use it for another vehicle so that we can’t trace the actual vehicle that was stolen.

“Do you all believe that you have strong evidence against this individual that has been arrested?”

Superintendent Miguel Guzman- OC, Corozal Police Station

“Certainly, the area where it was found was an isolated area, he was the only person around, he admitted that he had gotten a jog from a person in Belize City, whose name at this point and time we would not want to release because of the ongoing investigation but his job was to take down certain parts of the vehicle.”

Thirty four year old Shane Anthony Morgan is expected to appear before the Corozal Magistrate Court tomorrow.
