corozal_accidentA male resident of San Antonio Village in the Cayo district was the victim of a hit and run accident in Corozal Town. At around 12:55 this morning Corozal Police was called to the scene between miles 84-85 on the Northern Highway where they observed the motionless body of a Hispanic male.

The body was observed on the left side of the road in the vicinity of Mira Montes bar with apparent injuries to the body, left side of the face and hands. There was a bicycle nearby with its rear tire extensively damaged.

Police have been able to identify the individual as William Robert Canto, a resident of San Antonio Village in the Cayo District. Canto was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Initial investigations reveal that at some time before twelve midnight Canto, who was riding his bicycle towards Corozal Town, was knocked down by a maroon four door pickup truck which did not stop to render assistance.

No one has been arrested for the crime as Police continue searching for the vehicle and driver involved in the hit and run.
