On Tuesday May 10th mothers across the globe will be honored by their loved ones for Mothers Day. Here in Orange Walk the celebration starts on Sunday with a number of activities organized in moms honor. One of those activities has been set up by the Institute of Creative Arts Orange Walk. Today we spoke to President of ICA Orange Walk Yvette Torres who told us more about the program they call Honoring and Appreciating Our Senior Moms.

“We are going to be doing a short documentary for them to share with us about their family life, their upbringing their education and a special message that they would like to leave with us.”

“Was there any special criteria that you followed in order to identify these moms?”

Yvette Torres - President ICA Orange Walk

“We are just having the age group between 80 to 100 years they can be over a 100. It is not really a criteria but for them to be honoured and appreciated for what they have been doing.”

The womens documentary will be aired on Sunday during the Orange Walk Town Councils Special Mothers Day Program to be held at the Orange Walk Central Park. In the documentary the women will all be asked to send out a special message to all residents of Orange Walk Town.

“For every Mother’s Day I feel that we always honour the young and the old. But these are women that are now at an age where they have a special message for us and our culture, our heritage, our traditions and our beliefs need to be left with us. I believe those are valuable information’s and I believe that as a country on whole we need to get those information’s so that we can pass it on.”

On Saturday the women selected will all be honored with a special treat at the Banquitas House of Culture.
