Mexican national Jose Luis Beltran has been in and out of court after he was detained by Corozal police. Beltran was arrested after he was found in possession of a .25 caliber pistol and nine rounds of ammunition along with 18 U.S$100 counterfeit notes while shopping at the Corozal Commercial Free Zone on February 24th.
When he appeared at the Corozal Magistrate’s Court he pled guilty to all charges. He was then granted bail for the weapon and ammunition charges. For the counterfeit charges the case was thrown out but before he was free to go he was detained once again by Corozal Police as they awaited a decision by the DPP.
On April 19th that decision finally became known as Beltran appeared in front of Magistrate Dorothy Flowers and was read the charge for possession of counterfeit currency. Beltran was remanded to Kolbe Correctional Facility until today when he appeared in court and once again pled guilty to the counterfeit charges. Beltran was fined $2,500 and has until the 31st of May to make payment.
