A Guinea Grass resident was detained by Police after a search inside her residence turned up 1.8 grams of cannabis. The search was conducted on Saturday afternoon at the residence of 23 year old Marela Leiva, where Police found a black plastic bag inside a wardrobe. Three pieces of cannabis were rolled up inside, and a subsequent search turned up an additional eight pieces.
Marela Leiva was informed of the offense and was escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station where the drugs were weighed and amounted to a total of 18.1 grams of cannabis. Leiva was then charged with possession of controlled drugs.
Today when she appeared in Court Leiva pled guilty to the charge. She was fined $1,200 for the offense by Magistrate Linden Flowers and was instructed to pay $500 forthwith and the rest of the money by the 15th of July.
