Although it has largely gone under the radar, over the weekend three tourists were injured in a boat accident which occurred at a little before four on Sunday afternoon as they were travelling back along the New River coming from the Lamanai archeological site.
Tour-guide Hilberto Novelo, the captain of the vessel which belongs to Jungle River Tours was allegedly bringing 18 tourists back from the site. He reported that upon reaching a blind curve along the New River called Richman Hill, another boat belonging to Lamanai Outpost coming in the opposite direction collided with his vessel on the left side.
As a result of the impact three female tourists received injuries and were transported to the Northern Regional Hospital. The vessels were also damaged, but both parties agreed to settle out of Court.
