So will the Northern Bus Operators, who themselves have expressed anger at the new routes, join with BBOC in their stance and threat of further action? Well at this time that’s still not certain because as we speak representatives of the Northern Bus Operators are meeting with members of the Belizean Bus Association to decide a course of action. We’re not sure what the outcome of that meeting will be, but it is expected that there will be some melding of forces as there are areas of common ground in terms of dissent against the new routes and schedules being imposed by government.
And while the stance of the Northern Bus Operators is unclear at this point, the Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, COLA, is crystal clear. In a release issued late today, COLA also accuses Minister of Transport Melvin Hulse of disrespecting and betraying the Belizean Bus Association. COLA stands in support of the demands made by the Association, and states that, and I quote – “If the demands of the Belize Bus Association are not met within 24 hours, ending Thursday at 12:00 midday, COLA will support the Belize Bus Association in organizing, facilitating and executing of any direction.”
