In 2008 charges were brought against nine persons after a twin-engine Beechcraft flying a Venezuelan flag landed on mile 41 on the Northern Highway. All persons with the exception of Roy Lanza were acquitted of all charges after the Department of Public Prosecution indicated that there was not enough evidence against the accused.
Last month Roy Lanza, the only person facing charges since the incident, appeared at the Magistrate’s Court for trial and yesterday afternoon he was found guilty of the charge of conspiracy in the illegal landing of a plane. Sentencing is set for the 7th of June. Magistrate Linden Flowers indicated to Lanza that he can either be fined $50,000 for the offense or get a sentence of five years, or in the worst case scenario he will be fined and confined.
