Today CTV-3 received multiple reports that employees of the Orange Walk Town Council had not received their end of month salaries because of a lack of the necessary funds. According to one source, only five persons, one of them the Town Administrator, had been paid, while another source told us that employees were informed that they would receive only a portion of the monies due them and the balance at an unspecified time.

We were unable to reach the Town Administrator for comment, but this evening we did manage to speak to Mayor Phillip de la Fuente, who told us that to the best of his knowledge the reports were untrue. He did verify that the Council suffers from a chronic lack of funds, but reiterated that he always ensures that salaries are paid as a matter of priority.
