Screen_shot_2011-05-31_at_5.35.26_PMThis morning the body of a man identified as Mexican Police Officer San Benito Mejia Tun was handed over to his family after a post mortem examination conducted yesterday was unable to determine the cause of death.

Tun’s body was retrieved from the waters of the Rio Hondo River at around eleven yesterday morning, and an identification card was found in his pocket stating that he was a Mexican Police Officer from Othon P. Blanco, Quintana Roo. His identity was further confirmed by Commissioner of the State Preventative Police Gumercindo Curivo, and it was reported that he has been missing from work for the past two days.

An official report from Police stated that the body had bruises to both sides of the face and forehead, as well as a swollen right eye and bruises to the chest. However, the post mortem examination was inconclusive due to the advanced state of decomposition. According to a Mexican media house “Notacaribe” the Police Officer was said to frequent the casinos in the free zone and it is believed that he was there prior to his death.
