The last time the Institute for Creative Arts in Orange Walk in collaboration with the Orange Walk Institute of Cosmetology offered a Cosmetology Course it was a huge success. Women from all over the Orange Walk District took the opportunity to learn the trade and start their own businesses. After realizing that the cosmetology course had a positive impact on the lives of these women, ICA and the Orange Walk Institute of Cosmetology are once again joining hands, offering the course to interested women and teenagers.

“We are going to be doing cutting of hair, manicure and pedicure. There is going to e a very small fee which is applicable for the registration for the course which is just five weeks. First we did a cake decorating course which was very successful we had one here at Banquitas and we did one in Guinea Grass with rural women’s group. They had asked that they wanted to continue in their growth and development so we decided to do this cosmetology course which has been very successful right now we have one running in Guinea Grass and it is also a five week program and they are in their third week.”

And since summer vacations are right around the corner, ICA along with the Banquitas House of Culture will be offering a number of courses for students of all ages.

“The institute of Creative Arts and the house of culture will be offering several programs. We will have drumming with the Garifuna Drummers since we don’t have people who know how to play the drums and when we get into November session we need drummers and we don’t have so we saw we do need to have our people trained in this area. We will also have guitar classes and dancing classes and there is going to be a lot for the kids also.”

For more information on the courses being offered you can call the house of culture at 322-0517.
