Yesterday we aired the concerns of fruit and vegetable vendors located at the Fort Carin’s Market Plaza in regards to the high price they have to pay for a sack of imported onion to the Belize Marketing and Development Board. For vendors, the price is way too high, so much so, that they themselves have had to increase the price per pound of onion since there is a shortage of the local product. That ultimately is affecting their business overall as they have seen drastic declines in sales. But according to BMDC, there is nothing they can do since the price per sack of imported onion is indeed high.

Silverio Marin, Administrator, BMDC

Silverio Marin, Administrator, BMDC

And the bad news continues coming because according to Marin, vendors and consumers will soon be experiencing an increase in other products and its all thanks to Mother Nature.

Silverio Marin, Administrator, BMDC

As the Christmas Season approaches, consumers can expect an increase in the price for apples, grapes and pears along with other products imported from Mexico.
