While the PUP chastised the Government for the Elvin Penner fiasco and allegations surrounding Edmund Castro, the Prime Minister of Belize struck back as he pulled out of the bag the Max Samuels alleged visa hustling scandal. But the PUP came out swinging again and this time held back no punches.

Honorable Dean Barrow- Prime Minister of Belize

Mr. Speaker exhibit A in 2002 when the member for Fort George was Prime Minister and the dam broke and the passport scandal inundated the then Minister of Immigration, Max Samuels, instead of firing Samuels…you are telling me about tell Penner to leave the house. I can’t do that the people elected him but what I could do I have done. Compare that to the course of action you took when your then leader, your them Prime Minster, your party, your administration when Max Samuels was involved in the kind of scandals that ultimately saw the US embassy and the state department revoke his visa. Instead of firing the minister, the horribly compromised Prime Minister at the time said and I quote “it is the judgment of the Prime Minister that Minister Samuels should be retained in the cabinet and that the decision I took and I am prepared to answer for that, well you are answering for it today, if you never answered before. Instead of firing the minister the horribly compromise Prime Minister at the time said and I quote. “It is the judgment of the Prime Minister that Minister Samuels should be retained in the Cabinet and that's the decision I took and I am prepared to answer for that. Don't talk about us and cover up. Don't talk about us and trying to distance ourselves from what happen. We accept responsibility and we deal with it and we moved on in a way that will strengthen our government. In August 2005, 200 passports went missing from the their immigration department, to be followed by another 100 in September of 2006 and who can forget the infamous Iqbal Singh, who when he landed in jail in Canada as a terrorist produced a Belize passport that they had given him and asked to be deported to the country of his nationality Belize. That is the sorry sordid saga of corruption and serial violations with respect to immigration alone under the People's United Party."

Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition

Please, the Belizean people are sick and tired of the rhetoric.  Deal with the corruption in your own government!  People don’t want you to be talking about Said Musa or anybody, the Belizean people are sick of that.  Yo gaan to LA gone complain ‘bout your deputy prime minister, talk to the people of Belize about the corruption and rot eating away at this UDP government, every single one of them, every single one.  That is what the Belizean people want and expect you Mr. Prime Minister to deal with.  Deal with the rot sitting beside you and next to you.”

At a press conference on October the tenth, the Prime Minister acknowledged that he had heard that there was a visa hustling taking place. What he calls a visa hustling scheme, others have called a quota given to ministers. The Prime Minster has said and I quote “I have heard that ministers, not minster are procuring visas for people. I have said pretty much at every second cabinet if you are doing so for God’s sake stop it, stop it.” This is not me saying so Mr. Speaker this is the Prime Minster. If there is one thing he said that can and would bring down this government it is hustling in immigration. I will close Mr. Speaker since you want to shut me down. I will close simply by reminding the Prime Minister of what is said to him at the beginning of his tenure. When all was bright and beautiful, when all the promises were made about six percent growth every year and all that I said to him Mr. Speaker and I am sure he hasn’t forgotten, Noh watch me, watch yoself and I will like to in fairness of the Prime Minster repeat him, repeat what he said to his own cabinet, For God Sake man stop it unu stop it.” I will raise another damning piece of evidence that is staring the face of the government and the Prime Minister is doing nothing about it and that is the evidence implicating another minster of state, Edmund Castro, In the sale and facilitation of visas.”

Michael Peyreffite, Speaker of the House

“Member thirty-eight eight, you can speak on a matter of urgent national issue but thirty-eight eight is clear. It is difficult to mention what the leader of the opposition mentioned without mentioning the member of Cayo Northeast. But now you’re going directly into the conduct of a member, whether you like it or not all members are your colleagues and if you want to speak about that you need to bring a motion for that. You need to bring a motion for thirty-eight eight.”

Said Musa- Fort George Area Representative

“I am speaking about a matter of national concern in according with rule of this house. If there is one thing he said that can and would bring down this government it is hustling in immigration. I will close Mr. Speaker since you want to shut me down. I will close simply by reminding the Prime Minister of what is said to him at the beginning of his tenure. And after all the back and forth, the Leader of the Opposition stood up to wish the Prime Minister a speedy recovery from his back surgery scheduled for Wednesday November 6th. The Prime Minister will be out of the country for approximately two weeks.
