Screen_shot_2013-11-01_at_8.46.17_PMA Belizean taxi driver was murdered in Belmopan last night. The body of 47 year old Orlando Smith was discovered around 9:45 last night lying face up in a pool of blood on Costa Rica Street Extension in the Maya Mopan Area, Belmopan with a large cut wound to the throat. The murder weapon was found inside Smith’s taxi car.

“We found the body; it had a cut wound to the neck. He was bleeding after which we transported the body to the Western Regional hospital where he was pronounced dead. “The motive has been ascertained as robbery. His geo prism was not found on the scene. Neighbours saw the vehicle speed off in that area and the vehicle was found on the George Price Highway.”

“Yes we surely do. We are looking for two persons of interests that could assist us in this investigation. The vehicle was stolen but recovered; certain items were stolen from out of his vehicle and that is the reason why I say that the motive is robbery.”


Smith, who lived in Roaring Creek, becomes the fourth taxi driver to be murdered for this year while on the job. With a trend forming, Assistant Superintendent Sinquest Martinez, Officer Commanding the Belmopan Branch, advised taxi drivers to look out for each other. Police are looking for two persons in connection with this latest murder.
