Screen_shot_2011-06-07_at_8.06.37_PMAfter its meeting on Tuesday the Belizean Bus Association delivered a letter to the Ministry of Transport and the Prime Minister of Belize, demanding that all previous runs be returned to bus operators and that Westline be removed from the Transportation Industry. The BBA gave government until today to respond to those demands but even before the deadline the Prime Minister, during his quarterly press conference on Wednesday, indicated that Westline was here to stay and basically there would be no more negotiations.

Barrow also mentioned that President of the BBA Thomas Shaw should not be interfering with the negotiations between government and the Northern Bus Association as it pertains to the runs here in the north scheduled to come into effect on June 19th. The Prime Ministers rationale was that of all the northern bus operators, only one belonged to both the BBA and the NBO.

But according to Shaw the Prime Minster has it all wrong because more than one bus operators belong to both associations. All the back and forth has basically caused confusion and in order to keep Belizeans abreast of the situation today the BBA held a press conference in Belize City.

As mentioned at the top of the story the BBA gave government until today to meet its demands. President of the BBA Thomas Shaw said however, BBA will give Government until the day is over to respond to them in writing. Shaw further indicated that if the BBA’s demands are not met further consultation with his membership will take place to see what steps will be taken. If there would be another national shutdown in the Transportation Industry Shaw would not say. We will keep monitoring the situation which without a doubt promises to be interesting.
