Screen_Shot_2013-12-17_at_8.07.38_PMIt is as popular as the ham and turkey for the Christmas, but while drinking is here to stay, drunk driving needs not to be tolerated.  The Corozal Police Department will be on high alert during the festivities looking for drunk drivers. Their aim is for the merry mood not to suddenly switch to horror with word that there was a traffic accident and a family has lost one of their loved ones.

“Now we know that there is a prescribe limit for alcohol in your system for you to be able to drive, wha tis that percentage?”

Andrew Ramirez – O.C Corozal Police Formation.

“The alcohol level differs in alcohol in the blood system and in the urine, the blood is 80 and then in the urine would 110 but again I want to emphasizes that the persons metabolism might differ, somebody might consume ten beers or ten stout and it does not reach the alcohol level other might be with two or three it differs because one of the things that I want to emphasize the police would act on suspicion, the suspicion would the manner the person is moving the vehicle, if it goes from left to right on stable I would create attraction to the police officers then the process would be that the police would then ask the driver, inform him I believe that you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs and it recommend or ask the person if they want to submit to a urine which can be done at the police station and if they want to submit the blood they must go to a medical doctor, then that item would be taken to the forensic in Ladyville and of course if it comes over the 80 then the offence of driving under the influence would be going into effect, if it pass over the 110 again it would be the offence driving under the influence but you notice that the police would charge first then send the blood or whatever into testing.  I would really want to see that at a more professional level right in the sense that we charge at the conclusion of the test right but also we must understand that there is an offence to refuse to an offender to the test which give an automatic disqualification by the magistrate so there will always ask the individual please submit upon request by the police; one it is within law; two you can explain to the magistrate because sometimes a person is stressed out and then they would say I would take a beer to avoid any kind of problem then you can explain to the magistrate why you were taking a little beer or two beyond above the prescribe level but by just saying I just don’t want to submit myself to a test basically you are saying that you are drunk.”

Bearing in mind that drunk driving will not be tolerated, Officer Commanding the Corozal Police Formation Andrew Ramirez, advices the general public to consume alcohol moderately.

Andrew Ramirez – O.C Corozal Police Formation.

“Kindly ensure that on a daily basis remind the community the drivers especially to refrain from drinking on excess because they will not stop to make alcohol or liquor, every time you take to drink a beer there are ten more cases that they manufacture.”

“110 and 80 is equivalent to approximately how many beers, I know for a fact it depends on the body metabolism but in an average body, average person, a healthy person, what are we talking about?”

Andrew Ramirez – O.C Corozal Police Formation.

“Looking at five beers but as I mention it is a very technical question that you put because a person who is a bit stressed body does not accept the liquor the way a person who is stress free.”

Families are advised to have a designated driver on hand during the festivities.
