Screen_Shot_2013-12-17_at_8.07.50_PMAs the countdown continues toward Christmas Day, the pace is already picking up in Orange Walk. Shoppers are busily searching for those special gifts for their loved ones, trees are being dusted off and decorated and houses and fences are sprouting lights like magic. While Christmas is generally enjoyed by all traditionally it is a time for the children. That philosophy held true as Orange Walk Central Area Representative Honorable John Briceño hosted the annual Children’s Christmas Party in San Lorenzo Housing Site, Philip Alvarez Park and the Village of San Estevan which all fall under his constituency. The celebration has become tradition and of course we were there to capture all the beautiful smiles that lit the night.

The annual Children’s Christmas Party hosted by the Honorable John Briceno and the Orange Walk Central Committee kicked off on Friday with prizes and surprises. The fun continued on Sunday, this time at the Philip Alvarez Park, where more than one thousands kids waited patiently for Santa’s arrival.

And of course, when the man with the red suit made his entrance, the night was filled with happy faces as he gave away balloon to the kids. After playing a number of games, the children received their goodies bag and gifts.

But Santa’s trip did not end on Sunday. Last night his sleigh arrived in San Estevan and it was packed with gifts. As you can see, a massive crowd of children along with their parents gathered at the San Estevan Park to enjoy the Christmas Party.

As old Saint Nick made his appearance, the children screamed with joy. Of course that happiness was shared with the Honorable John Briceno who was also spreading the Christmas spirit.

Hon. John Briceño, O/W Central Representative

“When San Estevan became part of Orange Walk Central in 2006 then we decided that we knew that we had to come here also and it is something that I really look forward to every single year during Christmas time, you know, Christmas is for kids and when you see them smiling, they are playing games, they are excited about getting their goodies bag it is something that it really make you feel good about yourself and I believe that myself and our committee we belief that we get more from them than what we give them.”

As the children lined up to play the famous musical chairs and other games, their angelic faces lit up with a smile giving Briceño the perfect opportunity to send out his Christmas message to young and old.

Hon. John Briceño, O/W Central Representative

“Yes certainly I love interacting with kids and all year but especially for Christmas, they say Christmas is for children and we all need to recognize that it is also a spiritual time when we recognize that it is the day that our Lord gave us his only son Jesus Christ who came and to save mankind and that is very, very important but it is also about the children giving a smile on their faces, giving them a little gift, playing a little game, playing Christmas music and the Christmas lights and the Christmas tree and the cakes and all that it comes along with it and so we want to do our part for the children of Orange Walk Central.  Certainly to the children of Orange Walk Central, the children of the Orange Walk Town, the district and the entire country of Belize I take this opportunity on behalf of myself and my family, the Orange Walk Central People’s Committee to wish all the kids a wonderful Christmas and certainly wish them all the best and to their parents to all Belizeans all across this country I want to wish them a blessed Christmas, a Christmas with their family so I want to wish them all the best and certainly for 2014 I want to wish them each and every one of them a wonderful 2014 we are hopeful people, we are optimistic people and we really hope, wish and pray that 2014 is going to be a better year than 2013.”

And while Santa Claus was the star of the night, the children and Briceno took over the show to wish everyone happy holidays.

During the course of the night, the importance of giving was what truly mattered, as residents of San Estevan once again celebrated with their Area Representative the gift of giving.

During the Christmas parties a stove was raffled for one lucky mom of each area. The winners were Kathrine Budna from San Lorenzo Housing Site, Carmelita Mai and Maritza Cornejo from the Village of San Estevan.
