Yesterday while many party revelers were celebrating the start of 2014, a couple from the Corozal District celebrated the New Year by welcoming with open arms a new addition to their family. Baby Zeidy Salas was born yesterday at 11:00am at the Corozal Community Hospital and with that became the town’s first New Year’s baby. Today when we visited the hospital the smiles of 20 year old Elsie Salas and 20 year old Alfred Salas were priceless as both became parents for the first time.

Baby Ziedy weighed-in at 6 pounds. Over all two babies were born at the Corozal Community Hospital within a span of two hours for 2014. Closer to home in Orange Walk, 21 year old Evelyn Witz of Lousiana Area gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. The healthy baby was birthed at approximately 3:43am on January 1st at the Northern Regional Hospital. The 7 pounds, 1 ounce baby and mother were discharged with a healthy bill of life. We say congrats to the parents of those New Year babies!
