Around 7:00 this morning, this bus carrying 50 students from the Belize Adventist High School was en-route to the high school in Calcutta Village Corozal when it became involved in what could have been a deadly traffic accident.

As you can see, the bus, belonging to Armstrong Bus Service, landed in a nearby cane field while this jeep Cherokee which was traveling in the opposite direction and allegedly swerved into the lane of the passenger bus became a mangled wreck as a result of the collision.

Driver of the bus, Lawrence Tillet told CTV3 News he was heading to the Belize Adventist High School when upon reaching mile 70 and 71 of the Philip Goldson Highway the jeep Cherokee, driven at the time by Eusebio Urbina collided into the bus.

Shaken but grateful for being alive and having been able to safe student’s life, Tillet spoke to us and recounted the accident.

“The driver drive off the road into the grass so nothing could happen to us but the man still crash into us and the wheel burst after that he nearly flip and so he said he will try not to flip and so he went into the cane field.”

As a result of the impact, one student was flung out of the bus. Luckily she only sustained minor injuries. And the same can be said for the driver of the jeep Cherokee. The student along with Urbina was transported via ambulance to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town for medical attention.

Police is yet to determine what caused the accident. CTV3 News understands that the students were brought to the Orange Walk Police Station where their statements were recorded.  According to the Principal of Belize Adventist College classes were cancelled for the students traveling on the bus since they were traumatize
