Screen_Shot_2014-01-29_at_8.10.20_PMThe annual Primary School Softball Tournament officially kicked off today at the San Andres Civic Center in Corozal Town. Coordinator of the tournament Carlos Acosta told us more on this year’s tournament.

“It’s the beginning of the district primary school softball tournament 2014 and we have eight schools participating and four females and eight males participating in this tournament which will take about six weeks to eight weeks of tournament before we go the national tournament for softball for primary schools.”

“Is this a rural or an urban competition?”

“It is a district competition and we have schools from Chan Chen, Ranchito, Xaibe and the Town schools, and it is eight schools that will participate this year.”

“At the end of the tournament, will these teams represent Corozal?”

“The winner in the male division and the male division will represent Corozal at the national championship games to be held in Belize City and it should be in April of this year.”


As part of the opening ceremony Acosta added that two games were schedule for today.

“Today we have two games for the male division; we have the Corozal Methodist in game one versus the Chan Chen government school and in game two we will be having the Xaibe versus Ranchito Government school, games are schedule for Wednesdays and Fridays and today it the official opening of the district tournament and we have two more games.”


At the end of today’s game Corozal Methodist School won Chan Chen 13 runs to 5 while the second game was won by Xaibe RC School who played against Guadalupe RC.
