Screen_Shot_2014-02-26_at_8.07.08_PMTwo couples from the Netherlands are doing the unthinkable and quite frankly we find the next story an admirable one. With a self-built motorhome, Ton and Anneka Vogelzang have been travelling the world since 2007. They have been to over 40 countries and yesterday they arrived in Belizean soil.

When our news team caught up with them at Eco Adventures we learn that the view from the windshield is constantly changing; one day its ruined castles and the palaces of great empires in Turkey, the next week its white sandy beaches in Merida Yucatan and today they found themselves being sun kissed under the Belizean sun. World Travelers Ton and Anneka shared their story with us.

TON VOGELZANG – World Traveler

“We started a couple of years ago our first stop was to India and then Naple and back home and then we made a decision to go to America and there we were not so lucky because in family there was a small problem we had to go home.  2012 we started again in Baltimore United States and then to Canada, Alaska and then from Alaska southwards to Mexico and Belize now.”

“Now you have seen the sites of so many different countries, how has it been and why it is that you guys are doing it, is it that you are raising awareness for something or is it something that is a dream to you guys?”

TON VOGELZANG – World Traveler

“It is fulfilling a dream; we always had dreams of all those foreign countries and meeting people, meeting other culture that is nice.”

Maria Novelo – Reporter

“How has the Belizean experience been?”

TON VOGELZANG – World Traveler

“We are just two days in Belize very good day sailing into the journal and then going to Lamanai a good experience.”

Paul Smit and his wife Marita have similar paths, they met the Ton and Anneka in Los Angeles and have been meeting up in several destinations throughout their journey.

Maria Novelo - Reporter

“Do you guys share the same dream more or less and what is your motivation for doing this?”

PAUL SMIT – World Traveler

“It is all the same dream, we had a dream for more than 20 years and we save money for twenty years and as soon as I retired then we started our journey.”

Maria Novelo - Reporter

“So of all the countries you’ve seen, all the cities, all the cultures, the people you’ve met what stood out the best?”

PAUL SMIT – World Traveler

“We really like Turkey the best, well there are very nice people and old culture and there is a lot of nature and it is very nice and if we had accepted every invitation we are still in Turkey now, because everyone asks us do you want tea, do you want to eat very nice.”

Maria Novelo - Reporter

“So now how has your experience in Belize been?”

PAUL SMIT – World Traveler

“Yes very nice, very friendly people and also a lot of Maya culture and a lot of bird very interesting so we hope to enjoy more days in Belize.”

So what’s next for these mobile world travelers? There next destination is to travel Central America and their final destination is Africa. Both couples agreed that until their health deems them unfit, they will travel until the ‘chasis’ falls off. We wish them well on their world travels!
