Screen_Shot_2014-03-14_at_7.36.07_PMA man manages to rob a woman using only deception. The incident occurred this morning at Palma’s grocery store located on San Andres Street in Orange Walk Town. Proprietor Fidelia Palma was still shaken when she detailed what had happened around nine thirty this morning.

Palma did not wish to appear on camera but said that two men of dark complexion had entered her small retail shop to buy cigarettes. One of the men returned shortly after to borrow some matches. Around nine thirty the man returned and ordered several items, which Palma says she diligently served. He then ordered some condiments and when she reached over the counter to hand these to him the man suddenly reached out and grabbed her thick gold chain, pulled hard until it broke and escaped through the door.

Palma says she screamed for help and saw her assailant riding away on a bicycle. Eyewitnesses who saw the men around the area and saw when one rode off on a bike say that the men were loitering in the neighborhood for some time before the robbery took place.

Accordingly, a man on a bicycle attempted to chase after the thief but lost him somewhere around the junction of Stadium and Fonseca Streets. Palma was not hurt but was left shaken after the incident as she says she never expected something as routine as serving customers to turn into a frightening ordeal in a matter of seconds. When our news team got to the shop, the family had not yet made a report to the police but said they would do so.
