There are more stories ahead but first let’s take a look at the weekly crop review.

March 30th 2014 marked the end of week 10 of the 2013/2014 sugar cane crop season. The report, provided by the Belize Sugar Industries Limited, shows that for week 10 the factory milled fifty eight thousand four hundred and eighty one tons of cane. To date, the factory has milled a total of five hundred and four thousand one hundred and forty one tons of cane. This is one hundred and twelve thousand seven hundred tons cane more than what was milled last year during the same period.


Taking a look at sugar production, six thousand nine hundred and twenty nine tons of the sweetener was produced for week ten. An overall of fifty two thousand eight hundred and sixty five tons of the product has been produced so far. Last year the factory produced thirty eight thousand five hundred and seventy seven tons of sugar.


This week the factory worked at a grinding rate of eight thousand three hundred fifty tons cane per day. Overall, for the ten weeks of crop, the grinding rate per day stands at eight thousand three hundred and fifty four tons cane. Last crop it was at seven thousand six hundred and thirty eight tons cane per day.


The report on Cane Quality shows that for week ten, juice purity first express stood at 87.85%, 87.37% during the ten weeks of crop and 86.92% last year. This week it took 8.44 tons of cane to produce one ton of sugar. For the ten weeks of crop TCTS stands at 9.54 while last year it stood at 10.15.


As for the sugar extracted from the cane, 95.67% was recorded this week, 95.39% during the ten weeks of crop and 93.6% last year during the same period. This week factory time efficiency stood at 99.4%, 95.59% for this crop and 94.65% last crop.


Of note is that the targeted milling figure for the week was exceeded by over 12,000 tons cane.  It is also important to report that good cane quality with improved juice purity and sugar extraction has resulted in continued improvement in the TC/TS ratio.


According to BSI’s report, the following seven new records were set at the Factory this week.  Tons cane milled for week: 58,481 tons, Tons sugar produced for week: 6,929 tons, Pol Extraction for week: 95.67%, Factory Time efficiency for week; 99.40%, Overall Time efficiency for week: 99.35%, Overall Recovery for week: 88.38% and Overall Factory efficiency for week: 94.75%.
