The shift in venue for the 2014 Love FM’s Band Best has sparked the ire of many people, particularly those who had made plans to make an economic profit off the event.
Today, the Belize Tourism Association Orange Walk Chapter issued a press release expressing their discontent with the changes. The BTIA Orange Walk Chapter says it is “disappointed” after what happened adding that it could have been avoided given that there would have been better communication and preparation among all parties involved.
Those key parties are also listed in the release and they include Love FM, which oversees Band Fest, and the Orange Walk Sports Council, which manages the People’s Stadium. The organization says that quote, “It is inexcusable for the Orange Walk People’s Stadium to be kept in such deplorable conditions” end of quote.
Band Fest has been shifted to Corozal Town where no doubt even at the last minute notice many business places have begun gearing up for the event. The BTIA however, states that the shift represents a major economic loss to the community of Orange Walk especially for food vendors, hotels, night clubs, gas stations, and many other businesses in town.
The release also states that several members of BTIA would have benefitted from having Band Fest in Orange Walk Town. A member of the BTIA is also quoted as saying that the relocation was not necessary as organizers could have explored other options such as the Louisiana Government School Grounds. Organizers according to the member, needed to visit regularly to settle logistics.
In conclusion, the BTIA appealed that organizers of Band Fest consider Orange Walk as the venue for next year’s event adding that they are ready to help with logistics. And while the Orange Walk Town Council has issued a release of their own, the BTIA also appealed to this body to quote, “get their act together and make the necessary improvements to our People’s Stadium, which has been severely dilapidated over the past few years” end of quote.
