Screen_Shot_2014-06-16_at_8.04.14_PMIn the month of March Hon. John Briceño, Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai and Hon. Marco Tulio Mendez were endorsed as PUP Standard Bearer’s for Orange Walk Central, Orange Walk South and Orange Walk East respectively.

This means they will once again seek office in the next General Elections. And on Sunday the PUP completed the slate for Orange Walk as voters of the north constituency elected their Standard Bearer.

Three men threw their hat in the political ring, Alfredo Ortega, Ramon Monchie Cervantes and Jaime Castillo. Reporter Victor Castillo has the story.

The doors of the polling station at Trial Farm Gov’t School were open at 8am and slowly PUP party supporters started to show up with flags, banner and T- shirts ready to support their favorite candidate.

The race was among Alfredo Fred Ortega, Jaime Castillo and Ramon Munchi Cervantes Jr. who all shared that the road to yesterday’s convention was no easy task.

Ramon Cervantes – Candidate

“Well it was very long although in a very short while but it was very self-rewarding because I met a lot of people and I’ve spoken to a lot of people and understood a lot of the people’s necessities.”

Jaime Castillo Candidate

Alfredo Fred Ortega – Candidate

But they did not do the work alone as all three candidates had their machinery of campaigners working overtime.

Ramon Cervantes – Candidate

“Since this morning people have been coming out, our machinery has been working pretty well and the voters are coming out.”

Jaime Castillo – Candidate

At 5:00pm the gates of the polling station were closed as officials began the counting process.  And after two hours of counting, the PUP had a new Standard Bearer for Orange Walk North.

Immediately after the announcement the new standard bearer was sworn in by party chairman, Henry Charles Usher.

A total of 1863 votes were cast of which Ramon Munchi Cervantes Jr. obtained 1394, Alfredo Ortega 439 and Jaime Castillo 30.
