As you heard at the top of the newscast, the relationship between the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association and Belize Sugar Industries Limited is currently navigating in turbulent waters. The main cause of contention is the payment per ton of bagasse.

On one hand we have BSCFA asking for $10.00 per ton of bagasse and on the other we have BSI offering 51 cents per ton. With none of the parties backing down, the sugar industry finds itself under a dark cloud. Both entities have given their side of the story to the media. But here is a first for BSI.

The company has been having one on one session’s with cane farmers, bringing to the table their case when it comes to the bagasse issue.

Representatives of the company have so far met with members of six branches.
