clinicPraying Pelican Missions was established in 2003 with a vision to literally impact the entire world. Here in Belize the team has organized free medical clinics, assisted in the construction of schools and even held bible studies for children for the past six years. Today when we visited the Orange Walk Peoples Stadium we found a Praying Pelican Mission Team from Augusta Georgia offering a free medical clinic to residents.

Carmelita Perez- Reporting

The long line that was formed at the Orange Walk People’s Stadium this morning consisted of patients in need of eye care. And that is exactly what they received from the Praying Pelican Mission Team that arrived from Augusta, Georgia.

The team of thirty brought along 7 medical doctors comprised of 3 general practitioners, 2 dentists and 2 ophthalmologists. And without a doubt Orange Walkenos have been taking advantage of the free medical clinic provided because in less than 4 hours the team of doctors had already seen some 200 patients.

“What we are seeing right now here in Orange Walk is that the vision is just amazing we are having a lot of people with vision problems. What each individual is getting for free is if they have a dental issue and their teeth need to be removed or the pain is being taken care of they are provided with Dental Prescriptions. If they go to the medical doctors they also get their free medicine. We also have the eye doctors who are providing the patients with eyeglasses. We have over 7,000 pairs of eyeglasses and over 3,000 of reading glasses that we are going to be giving away to the people of Belize.”

When it comes to General Medicine doctors saw patients suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and a number of other illnesses.

“We are seeing a lot of people with diabetes and hyper tension and we are seeing small children with other health related issues. A lot of times what we mainly see is back problems and knee pain. We are not prescribing diabetes of hyper tension medication because once you start someone on that they must coordinate it and keep it going.”

After receiving medical attention patients were given free medicine and vitamins.

Tomorrow the team will be offering free medical clinics in San Jose San Pablo, on Wednesday in Libertad and on Thursday in Sarteneja.
