corozal-police-stationTonight there is disturbing news coming out from the village of Chunox in the Corozal District as reports indicate that a woman who is with-child was pushed to the ground and beaten by two men from the same village.

The incident played out on Sunday at around 10:00pm. According to 20 year old Mariacel Tun she was at home when she heard a loud noise coming from outside her residence.

As Tun, her mother and some friends stepped outside to see what was the matter, she noticed that four male person were beating her common law husband, 19 year old Jose Danilo Monzon, with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Upon seeing that her common-law-husband was basically defenseless, Tun tried to assist him but at that instance was stopped by two of the men who grabbed her by the hand and threw her to the ground.

As if that was not enough the men hit her several times. Tun defended herself by biting one of her attackers who punched her on the left eye.

Satisfied with their actions, the men then left the area leaving Monzon on the ground covered in blood and unconscious. Monzon sustained two large cut wound on the head and his right eye and lips were badly swollen. As for Tun, she received bruises and scratches to her right and left inner arm, scratches and abrasions to her right foot.

Both Tun and Monzon were transported to the Corozal Community Hospital where they were later transferred to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

According to doctors, Tun’s injuries have been classified as harm. She is four months pregnant and was complaining of pain in her lower back and abdomen.

Corozal Police have since detained six male individuals from the village of Chunox pending investigations. While our reporter Victor Castillo travelled to the village today to get reaction from family members, he was unable to do so as they all declined comment in fear for their lives.

We will bring more of this story in tomorrow’s newscast.
