According to 29 year old Antonette Armstrong, a teacher of 2nd Street North in Corozal Town, sometime around 8:30 on Tuesday night she was at home when she heard a noise coming from her front gate. At that instance she thought it was her mother-in-law coming to visit.


With that in mind, Armstrong opened her front door but saw that no one was at the front gate which was open. She then decided to check the back of the house and that is when she noticed that her 24” beach cruiser bicycle was not where she had parked it earlier. As she ran out to the yard, she saw a male person wearing a white jersey shirt speeding off with her bicycle heading towards Santa Rita Road.


Quick Police response led to the recovery of the stolen bicycle which was found at the residence of 22 year old Sherman Sanker in the village of Xaibe in the Corozal District. Police arrested Rocky Matura, 30 year old Belizean mason of Hall's Layout, Corozal Town and charged him and a 17 year old female minor for theft of a bicycle. As for Sherman Sanker Jr., he was charged for handling stolen goods as he disposed of the bicycle. Both Matura and Sanker are being investigated for other bike thefts on Corozal Town.
