He is accused of viciously chopping 52 year old Maria Elena Baeza and leaving her for dead… and today when 21 year old Orlando Sanchez was taken to the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court the book was thrown at him. He was charged for attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm and aggravated assault.
In Court Sanchez was informed by Magistrate Linden Flowers that he was being charged because he intentionally and by unlawful harm attempted to cause the death of Maria Elena Baeza on June 12th 2011. When asked if he understood the charges an unemotional Sanchez said ‘yes.’. Since the matter is an indictable one no plea was taken from the 21 year old resident of San Lazaro Village who was remanded to prison until August 4th 2011.
Orange Walk Police believe Sanchez is the man who entered Baeza’s home on Sunday, July 12th while she was alone and threatened to kill her with a knife if she made any noise. It is believed that Sanchez then ordered Baeza to enter her vehicle, drove her 2 miles east of Yo Creek Village and chopped her several times leaving her for dead. When Police found Baeza at around 4:00pm that same evening, she was in critical condition with chop wounds to her face and head.
Of note is that Sanchez was only charged today because since the day of the incident he had been on the run from Police. He was captured on Sunday afternoon as he tried to make his way across to Union, a small Mexican village located right across from Blue Creek
