Screen_Shot_2014-07-29_at_5.36.17_PMEarly this morning the fire department got information of a fire on Rio Grande Street and immediately dispatched a team to the scene. Upon arrival, fire saw the small wooden structure consumed by a large blaze but their quick response the douse the flames prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and structures. While we could not confirm the cause of the blaze as of news time, Fire Chief Kenneth Mortis says they learned that the owner had just left a few hours ago en-route to Melchor and are investigating a cause.

“We try to contain the blaze before it spread to the neighboring structure. It took the fire department approximately three minutes to control the fire and another 25 minutes to totally extinguish the blaze. From our investigation we learnt that the house is owned and occupied by one Miss Olga August who was not at home at the time of the inferno. According to neighbors she left this morning between 4:00am and 4:30am en-route to Melchor. We can confirm that the house measures approximately 15 by 20 it is of zinc roofing and the only speculation is that Miss August might have left a candle or fish lit inside. I am hoping that it is neither of the two but come what may the fire department must come to a conclusion as to how the fire started. Unfortunately nothing was salvaged. Through the remains we found what appeared to be a double bed with mattress and a stock of clothing it is an unfortunate situation to start the morning off.”

Our attempts to speak with the owner were futile since Ms. August was away on her trip. The estimate value of the loss is not yet known and a cause, inconclusive. As any other tragedy, community support is needed for this home owner to rebuild her life, we urge our viewers to assist in any way you can.
