Screen_Shot_2014-08-05_at_7.46.12_PMLast night we reported on the pickup truck that was stolen from Gilberto Camal’s garage in the village of Xaibe in the Corozal District on the 31st of July 2014.Today our news team caught up with Camal who told us how his truck was stolen from his garage while they were asleep.

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“As we woke up Friday six o’clock we noticed that a hammock went missing and the vehicle, and after investigating the whole day Friday and part of Saturday we manage to find that it was somebody from the village who took the vehicle, he drove it out of the garage.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“Did this person had access to your property, to your premises, how is it, did the key was left on the ignition?”

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“I still have the keys inside the house, he managed to open the vehicle and he just drove out.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“Was anyone at home at the time the vehicle was taken out?”

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“Yeah, we were at home.”

Desperate to recover his pickup truck that has a value of approximately $5,000.00, Camal called in on one of the north’s local T.V shows and shortly after he got answers.

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“Well after dialing 911 which somebody from Orange Walk police station spoke to me and they referred to Corozal Police Station and later on they referred me to Patchakan Police Station and after informing the police officers I noticed that it was already late and nothing had happened so I realize that I have to go to the media so I called Mr. Sany Baeza Program “Despierta Belice” and I reported the vehicle and within five minutes time someone from Orange Walk, I am not sure if it was from a nearby village, I got a call telling me that they have seen a blue ford ranger pickup by that area and I started the search.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“So, when you started the search, where did that search lead you to?”

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“Well, after talking to friend, neighbors and family members we got a clue as to someone from the community  who was driving that vehicle around the community so I went and I spoke to different people and by around 4 to 5 in the evening I manage to get enough information as to who did it.”

With the information received, Camal was able to recover his vehicle on Saturday. The truck was found at a mechanic shop in Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk District.

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“I had to wait until Saturday and I went to speak to the person and he totally rejected that he did it but later on he realized that he had no other alternative but to confess the truth which lead me to Orange Walk, Trial Farms where I recovered my vehicle.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“Did this person tell you if he sold it, bartered, what was the process?”

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“Well, it seems that this person took the vehicle and sold it for $500 so I had to pay back some of the monies to the one who had bought so that I can recover my vehicle.”

Gilberto Camal – Victim

“Well to all the community members, relative, friends and especially from the “Despierta Belice” program I have to give thanks because due to the media and to the people who were listening to the news at that time I manage to get text, messages and also calls who gave me vital information as to where to find my vehicle.”

Today when we checked with the Corozal Police Department, we were informed that one person is under police custody awaiting charges for motor theft.
