As part of the Northern Regional initiative, the Orange Walk and the Corozal Police Departments conducted a joint operation yesterday in sight of the San Joaquin Fiesta scheduled to commence tonight.
According to Officer Commanding the Corozal Police Formation, Andrew Ramirez, Operation Cleanup has but one aim.

Andrew Ramirez – OC Corozal

“Orange Walk Police was here yesterday and they did some searches for wanted persons and a few minor arrest nothing much to mention about right but the most important thing of it is that the community felt an increase of police presence and they realize it was a counter anticrime effort that we did just to ensure that people came out for the San Joaquin Fiesta, that they can have movements with the family and friends peaceful and that is the main objective of that but that is a regional initiative and I would like to take time to thank Superintendent Arnold, Officer In charge for Orange Walk who has sent a number of officers from Orange Walk to assist in the operation and the operation code name was operation Clean Up.”

During the operation a total of 500 vehicles were searched and a quite amount of narcotics were seized.

“In one occasion the police charged two male individuals for being in possession of .1 grams of cannabis, the other occasion one person was charged for 1.9 grams of cannabis and another two persons were charged for possession of pipe, during the operation over five hundred vehicles were search because we were also aggressive on our vehicular checkpoints and that is from the border to the Corozal jurisdiction also during that process the police visited a field in the Chan Chen area where they found four hundred and eighteen marijuana plants about two feet in height and 313 marijuana seedlings so all in all I believe the operation was successful.”

The operation was headed by newly transfer Inspector Peter Serrano.
