Antholyn_VellosTonight a 16 year old is lucky male from the Corozal District is lucky to be alive after he jumped off the Corozal pier to rescue one of his friends that fell into the sea.

On Saturday August 16th, between 5:30 and 6:00pm, 16 year old Antholyn Vellos, a student of Corozal Community College and three of his friends were hanging out at the peer. While there, one of the individuals fell into the sea, and was about to drown. Vellos jumped after his female friend with the aim of assisting her, but according to family members he caught cramp in the abdomen causing him to go under water.

With the assistance of employees from Thunderbolt, a water taxi company, Vellos was taken out of the water in an unconscious state. Today when we spoke with the victim’s mother, Maria Vellos, via phone, she told what happened on the day of the incident.

“I am not really sure of what happened I just receive a visit from someone to tell me that my son was heading to the hospital because he had an incident that he nearly drowned, that is what they told me.”

“There is word out there that your son was unconscious for five minutes and that workers on Thunder bolt didn’t give up on him and performed CPR, what is it that you know about it?”

“Until afterward I get to know about it, not immediately. I haven’t talked to them but some family member that went to asked them about the incident and they told that they didn’t give up with my son but the police had already given up in him like saying you no see the boy done dead and I am so surprised with the police in saying that when they are the ones who should be kneeling down and giving the CPR, and I understand that those from Thunder bolt didn’t give up on my son and it is a miracle because he is here with us.”

The 16 year old was rushed to the Corozal Community Hospital and was later transferred to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. As for Vello’s mother, she is thankful that her son is alive.
