48 year old Tan Guo Zhang, proprietor of Tan’s Game Room located on 7th Avenue in Corozal Town, was inside his business when sometime between 9:15pm and 9:30pm, a clear Hispanic male person entered the business place and changed a $10.00 bill into US$5.00 to play one of the machines. Ten minutes after, another male person of clear complexion knocked on the front door and upon Zhang opening the door, the man who was inside playing the machine placed a knife to his throat.

At that instance the second individual entered the establishment, bounded Zhang’s hands with a red shoe lace, tied his feet with a brown belt and proceeded to blind fold him with a purple hand kerchief. According to Zhang, both male persons were inside the building for about thirty minutes and when he tried to move he was punched on the left side of mouth causing a cut wound.

The criminals made off with approximately US$500.00 in various denominations, BZ$200.00 in various denominations and one cartoon of cigarette which costs $50.00. They escaped through the back door.

“How many persons do you have for questioning?”

Andrew Ramirez - OC Corozal

“We have three of them at this point in time, I know that I had indicated that there are two individuals but most of these crimes are carried out with a group that we tasked off to be on the lookout for the police officers, because you must understand 7th avenue is a very active and one of the main thorough way it is also at one point it is known as the Phillip Goldson Highway because that is the international road.”

“What plan of action do you have in order to curve crime in particular robberies and burglaries?”

Andrew Ramirez - OC Corozal

“Definitely we have stepped up our vigilance with more patrol and more pro-activeness and I just want to caution again that this needs the community to play a role in relation to this, I would have believe that August would have been a challenging month for the Corozal police crime wise because the month of August is where the criminal elements both from transit from other district would come and prey because they want to get their money for September celebrations.”

As previously mentioned, Corozal Police have three persons detained for questioning.
