From Beaver to Ventures, 20 children were officially sworn in as the 11th Corozal Mary Hill Scout Group in the Corozal District this morning. It was a proud moment for the new recruits who will soon learn that being in the group is not only about wearing a prestigious uniform, its also about learning basic skills that will transform them into good men and women of society.

Lucia Cituk– Group Leader

“Being a member of the Association is overwhelming I would say all our group from the Beaver, to the Ventures is held a non-informal education form them, we go out camping, we educate them how to do fires, how to cook, how to be social and so much things that is very difficult to mention all of them but all of our group members do very well in all of those areas.”

And to show that hard work pays off, Scout member, Imer Campos, was awarded this morning for his outstanding performance within the group.

Hilberto Riverol – Scout Executive

“I have known Imer for a number of years and I have seen him first in a yellow uniform like in a cub scouts, then in a full khaki uniform and now a green and khaki uniform, that is telling us that Imer has been moving up in ranks in scouting; cob scout, scout and now adventure and it gives me great pleasure to present to you with this award which is the world scouting emblem that indicates that you have really demonstrated what scouting is all about, you are a great person to be admired.”

Victor Castillo - Reporter

“This award that you got today, what does this means to you?”

Imer Campos – venture

“Well, it is a great pleasure to be getting this award and for Mr. Hilberto is a big deal as well but it was unexpected to me.”

Victor Castillo - Reporter

“You said you been in scout since nine and you are seventeen now, what are some of the things that you have done in order for you to merit this award?”

Imer Campos – venture

“Well, from small I’ve been helping the community out, planting trees and going to rips as well, like when I was fourteen I went to Sweden and that as well count with me and I helped this group as well doing many restoration as well.”

The new members were officially installed into the Beaver, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures level.

During this morning’s ceremony, Mayor Hilberto Campos was also presented with an award.
