On Monday September 29th the People’s United Party will celebrate their 64th anniversary. The party was born in 1950  and at the helms have been several leaders including the late Father of the Nation Right Hon. George Cadle Price, Right Hon. Said Musa, Hon. John Briceño and presently the Hon. Francis Fonseca.

In the Corozal District PUP Standard Bearer for Corozal North David Castillo and his committee are gearing up for the celebration. Castillo told us what they have planned.

davidDavid Castillo – Standard Bearer PUP

“Every year for the past, I would say thirty years, the Corozal North Constituency Executive has traditionally celebrated the birthday of the party in the various villages of the Corozal North and we have planned again for this year and we will be celebrating the birthday of the party the 64th anniversary of the PUP in Patchakan Village and so that is what we have planned and the activities will include a parade, then official ceremonies and then cultural presentations, with great attractions because we will be having local and our neighbors from Chetumal Quintana Roo will come to participate and then we will end up with a free dance with the mighty Techno Band for the people that will come and celebrate.”

But there is a big question mark as to where the event will take place because according to Castillo, political manipulation has reared its ugly head and Honorable Hugo Patt, Corozal North’s Area Representative, is to blame.

David Castillo – Standard Bearer PUP

“Well, us the PUP we are a responsible party, we are law abiding members of the PUP and we believe in doing the right thing, so we did the right thing by submitting a request to the local authority who is the chairman, Mr. Tzib and the Chairman of the sports committee requesting the rental of the football field because doing a public activity the advocate facility is the football field or the park as the alternate venue but speaking with these guys verbally they have mentioned that they have no problem in renting these facilities but throughout the process while submitting the letter apparently there is apolitical interference by the representative, Hugo Patt, manipulating the decision of the village council and the sport committee where I believe it is malicious and petty very petty because this is a public activity and the advocate facility is the public grounds rather than using a private property.”

Despite the current barrier the show must go on says Castillo even If it means having it at a private area.

“Now Mr. Castillo since you isn’t given the venue that you want where will you all carry on with the celebration?”

David Castillo – Standard Bearer PUP

“Well, we will carry on with the celebration and we will continue as our plans are set for Patchakan unfortunately we will have to use a private land now to carry on with the celebration so that is going to be our alternative venue and this is set for the 11th of October.”

This Saturday Castillo and his committee will hold a meeting with villagers of Patchakan to listen to their concerns.
