Screen_Shot_2014-10-01_at_7.58.02_PMThis morning our Corozal reporter Victor Castillo was called out to the Village of Calcutta in the Corozal District. Upon his arrival he spoke to a number of residents who claim that for the past two nights the sound of gunshots reverberates across the village. Speaking off camera, the villagers stated that they have reported the matter to police who are yet to visit the village.

When we contacted the Corozal Police Formation, Inspector Peter Serrano, Deputy Officer in Command, assured us that no complaint has been lodged at the department, however; the matter will be looked into.

But while Corozal Police is yet to look into the matter, residents of Calcutta are expressing fear for their life since they no longer feel safe inside their homes with gunshots being fired in the village. Anyone knowing of any illegal activity taking place in the village is asked to contact the Corozal Police Department at 402-0022 or dial 911.
