Education is not getting cheaper in our beloved country and whatever assistance rendered to those with limited financial resources is more than welcomed. One such assistance was rendered over the weekend by the Orange Walk Rotaract Club. It has been several years since the club members have worked on this project and this year, Azalia Torres, Secretary of the club said they managed to aid more students. Over the weekend they handed them a small grant to help them pay for their education.
Azalia Torres – Secretary, OW Rotaract Club
“It’s been the biggest amount of grants that we have been giving so far since we started Rotaract in 2008 when we were re-chartered every year we’ve been giving four grants, two years ago we gave ten, last year we gave nine and this we will give thirteen, six of them was actually the Club of Rotaract Orange Walk from the funds of our kiki bar during Fiesta Rama and the other seven actually matched by the business community of Orange Walk, we choose these students from four categories; academics, leadership, technical, arts and sports and these are students from different highs schools here in Orange Walk. Some parents don’t have the finances to send their children to school and even though it is only three hundred dollars it is a big help for them so these students we ask the high school administrator to nominate these students. Maybe next year we will be giving fifteen or maybe twenty as long as the community helps us we are very glad and very thankful for these people who has helped us out and we look forward that they keep helping us so as we keep helping the community of Orange Walk.”
Anyone wishing to assist the club in this initiative or any other community oriented project they carry out can contact any member of the club.
